“A mix of brutality with awesome groove.” This is Insurgent in a nutshell.
Formed in 2002 as “Praetorian”, founding members Tommy Ions, Tim Evans, and Daniel Harrison began rehearsing together in Tim’s basement for the better part of 2002. The music that resulted was very thrash/groove orientated being influenced by bands like Pantera and Metallica to name the obvious.
The start of 2003 saw Chris Kenyon join the line up as second guitarist. Chris bought with him a wider range of metal musical influence, (500+ CD collection). Bands like Cannibal Corpse, Deicide and Necrophagist, which in the long term would have a major impact on Insurgent’s musical styling.
Having discovered a metal band in NSW owning the same name. Praetorian quickly changed their name to Insurgent, a name that would come to personify their music perfectly. While in the process of changing names in early 2005, the line up became complete with vocalist Suey Suitesh joining the band. Up until then, Insurgent had been writing and rehearsing without a vocalist.
Unlike the early Praetorian days, the music was now a lot heavier and quicker, drawing from a more progressive and death metal influence. The only presiding quality was the groove factor.
The second half of 2005 and first half of 2006 saw Insurgent build up a repertoire worthy of gigging with, and did so numerous times towards the end of the year. With enough material under their belts, Insurgent proceded to assault the studio from September 2006 to January 2007.
This leads to the present day where Insurgent has completed the recording of their debut E.P, titled “cutthroat tunes” ..........
